Quill & Coal CEO, Bryna Jean-Marie received, both, her master’s degree in Human Communication Studies: Rhetoric & Intercultural Communication, and her bachelor’s degree in Journalism & Public Relations from Howard University. She has over 25 years of experience in communication and media at companies that include Time Inc., Condé Nast, Meredith Corporation, Sandow, and Hearst Publishing. She has held positions such as Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Director, Senior Editor, Research Manager, and White House Correspondent at publications and websites that include Uptown magazine, Vogue, Architectural Digest, In Style, O, (The Oprah magazine), Glamour, Ebony and Jet magazines. She has also provided editorial direction and editing for memoir and nonfiction book development. A few of Bryna's marketing and branding clients include Unilever/Shea Moisture, ESPN, The Crown Act, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and The Ad Council. Additionally, she has written and produced for television, and managed independent film projects, as well as lectured and taught college-students speech and journalism at the Fashion Institute of Technology and the City University of New York. Bryna’s television projects include Tuskegee Airmen: Legacy of Courage (History channel) and Becoming: Michelle Obama in Conversation (Viacom/BET). She is developing the first BIPOC career advancement academy for The WNET Group. And she has spent more than 20 years co-hosting her passion project, Conversation Black, a space to discuss the dynamic of creating healthy romantic relationships between Black couples.
